Members of Chess club „Posavac“ from the parish Ruščica came to Medjugorje this August for the 12th time. It was opportunity for them to participate in the individual chess tournament „Međugorje 2015“. Chess players also participated along with the members of their families in the evening prayer programme held at the White Dome of St. James' church, as well as in the prayer on Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain.
On Friday, August 21, the 9th stage of the Marian Vow, Sinj-Međugorje was completed. Around 15 pilgrims arrived to Medjugorje after their last stage they had walked from Vitina. They will stay in Medjugorje until August 23, and then they will continue their walk towards Slano and Dubrovnik, where this pilgrimage through Marian shrines is going to be completed. (fotos)
HVIDRA, Association for former Soldiers of Croatia as well as student associations SKAC Palma and MAGIS, as well as many other communities of students and former soldiers from the recent homeland war, organised from June 21, the pilgrimage „Marian vow for Homeland“, that will go through all bigger Marian shrines from the east to the south of Croatia.
The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was solemnly celebrated in Medjugorje with huge numbers of pilgrims from our country and from the abroad. Many pilgrims, especially the youth, walked from various directions during the night to come to Medjugorje on this day. The first Holy Mass in Croatian was celebrated at 6 a.m., then there were Holy masses at 7, 8, 9, 11 a.m. as well.
Ana Mlinarić fromVukovar, parish of St. Joseph the Worker, arrived to Medjugorje for the last Youth Festival. Ana said in her interview for medjugorje.hr that she has been coming here for the last 10 years in organised groups: „The bus of young people arrived with me, besides youth from my parish there are those from the other parts of Slavonija, around Vinkovac, Osijek, Slavonski Brod, Pozega, Pakrac.
During the 26th International Youth Festival, many would remain after the evening Holy Mass in Adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. So many told us that Adoration was the most beautiful part for them. Anamaria from Germany has been coming for the fourth year now and she told us:
The 26th Youth Festival that began on July 31, finished on August, 6 with the Holy Mass celebrated by the parish priest Fr. Marinko Sakota on the Feast of Transfiguration, August 6, on the top of Cross Mountain. The programme of the 26th International Youth Festival continued on Wednesday, August 6, 2015. The morning lectures began with prayer and continued with the catechesis of Fr. Marinko Sakota with the theme of forgiveness. Sr. Rastislava Ralbovsky, member of community of Merciful Sisters of St. Cross of the Croatian Province in Djakovo, spoke about the connection she and her mission has with Medjugorje. (slike)
A testimony that we would like to emphasise and it took place on Monday, August 3, was the testimony of married couple Gianluca Anselmi and Anna Benedetti from Verona. Both of them are professional musicians and Anna said that after 10 years of marriage she discovered she was pregnant and that they were expecting a girl. They decided to name her Lucy, but something was not right.
The programme of the 26th International Youth Festival continued also on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. The morning prayer was led by Fr. Stanko Ćosić, while Fr. Ljubo Kurtovic gave a lecture on theme Prayer and life. Silvia Costa, 23 years old girl from Sicily in Italy, gave her testimony about her love for Medjugorje and Croatia. (fotos) ; (video)
The central event today was the Holy Mass celebrated at 7 p.m. with Fr. Damir Pavic, parish priest from Brestovsko parish in the central Bosnia. The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament followed when at the end all of the priests were among the faithful giving them blessing with their extended hands over them. Morning was reserved for the Holy Masses in different languages, and the programme continued at 4 p.m. with the prayer and testimonies. The visionary Marija Pavlović Lunetti spoke first and then Leticia Blanco Gordon from Peru gave a testimony on how the community „ Apostles of Mary, the Queen of Peace“ in Peru was established. On Sunday, August 2, after the evening Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Fillip Pavlovic, young priest born in Medjugorje, the procession with the Statue of Our Lady was held. The homily was given by Fr. Ivan Filipovic, a priest who was ordained after his healing from drugs in Cenacolo community. Young people from Switzerland carried the Statue of Our Lady in the area in front of the church, and the procession was conducted by Fr. Perica Ostojic.
Leticia Blanco Gordon from Peru gave a testimony at the Youth Festival on Sunday, August 2 and she spoke about how the community “Apostles of Mary, the Queen of Peace” was created. This community is the fruit of Medjugorje and they will celebrate 15 years of their activity this year. She told us that everything began in 1991, when she was only 19 years old.
On August 2, we had chance to hear a testimony of Gottfried Prenner, lay theologian from Austria. He experienced conversion during one of the apparitions in 1984 and graduated at the Faculty of Theology afterwards. For the last 13 years he has been working as a missionary in Eastern Europe, Germany, Kosovo, in Palestine, Brazil, Rwanda, and in many other countries.
