Easter message of Fr. Marinko Sakota, the parish priest of Medjugorje

date: 02.04.2021.

Fr. Marinko Šakota, Medjugorje parish priest, sent his Easter message to all pilgrims and faithful:

In the season of spring when the entire nature is awaken, when all seeds and plants become alive, we celebrate the Easter. What is the Easter and what does it mean to our lives?

There are moments in our lives when we are speechless and when there are no words that can bring us clarity. One of those moments happens before the grave. This is how Mary of Magdala and disciples felt when they stood before the grave with Jesus’ body. Resurrection is Christ’s light that comes from the other side and shines on our earthly path and our unclarities.

Our Resurrection begins when we start to recognise God in man and when we decide to love and to forgive. Before Resurrection takes place, our selfishness and pride need to die within us. When love conquers within us, love ready to serve life, then the Resurrection will take place.

We become more aware of the negative consequences of the individualism that reigns in this modern time – we are all closed in our own lives, our „peaceful“ and isolated places, there is indifference against the others, blindness and cruelty to the suffering of the other. Once Christ’s Resurrection penetrates within us, we can no longer remain passive and selfish, but we become engaged in the encounters with others to proclaim to them how Jesus is alive and how love is stronger and better than the evil.

Dear parishioners of Medjugorje parish, dear pilgrims and all people of good will, may you all have blessed and happy Easter!

Fr. Marinko Šakota,
Medjugorje parish priest
