First Holy Communion in Medjugorje

date: 06.05.2008.

On Sunday, May 4th, 2008, eighty-eight children from Medjugorje Parish received the sacrament of First Holy Communion. Their catechists, Sister Slavica Kozul, Fr. Stjepan Martinović and Sister Iva Bešlić prepared them for this sacrament. This is the largest group of children who ever received the First Holy Communion in Saint James’ parish.

On Saturday, May 3rd, the children made their first Holy Confession. They were accompanied by their parents who also went for Confession.

The whole celebration was in the sign of the shell and the pearl, so that the prayers of the faithful, the Offertory Procession and the flower decoration followed this theme.

The Solemn Mass was celebrated by the Parish Priest Fr. Petar Vlašić and the vicars Fr. Svetozar Kraljević, Fr. Miljenko Šteko and Fr. Vjekoslav Milićević. The children’s' choir “Little Doves of Peace”, under the direction of Sister Slavica Kozul, embellished the celebration with their beautiful singing. Family members were present, together with pilgrims and visitors who had come to Medjugorje, so that the church was full to capacity.

After the Eucharist in the church, the celebration continued in the families.
