date: 25.07.2015.

Medjugorje parish celebrated the feast of St. James, its patron saint this Saturday, July 25, 2015. The Holy Masses in Croatian language were celebrated at 7, 8 a.m. and at 7 p.m., while the central Holy Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. in the Garden opposite to the old parish church. The main celebrant was Fr. Josip Serdjo Cavar, parishioner of Medjugorje, who is now serving in Posusje. The members of the Merciful Father community carried the statue of St. James in the procession from the church that started at 10.45 a.m. The whole celebration was more solemn thanks to the singing of the main choir of the Queen of Peace, conducted by Sr. Irena Azinovic. Fr. Marinko Sakota, the parish priest, greeted all those present and said how the parish prepared for this celebration with Novena and prayer programme. The parish of Medjugorje was established in 1892, and they took St. James as their patron saint, which is quite significant as he is the patron saint of pilgrims. This parish lived simple life of one ordinary Herzegovinian parish until 1981, when both Medjugorje and the church of St. James became the centre for millions of pilgrims from all over the world.
