Sacrament of Holy Confirmation in Medjugorje

date: 16.06.2017.

66 young boys and girls, students of the eight grade, 39 girls and 27 boys, received the sacrament of the Holy Confirmation on Thursday, June 15, 2017. Mons. Dr. Ratko Peric, bishop of Mostar – Duvno Diocese, was the main celebrant of the Holy Mass at 10 am in the parish church of St. James.

Two of them welcomed the bishop along with the parish priest, Fr. Marinko Sakota. Biskup Peric, among other things, said in his homily: „Dear youth who will receive this sacrament, brothers and sisters in Christ. When your colleagues in other parishes greet me, I can hear that you are aware that you live at the time of many challenges, when winds of this world drive you in different directions often, to the disobedience to God’s commandments, lies and thefts, drugs and other selfish acts. Those are your everyday struggles, but also of your brothers, parents, godparents - of all of us. In those battles, you young people, we hope and trust in you, and today this is great celebration not just for you and your families, but for the whole church in Herzegovina and Catholic Church. This is also the Feast of Corpus Christi, and sacrament of Confirmation in this parish, when 66 of you will receive seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. There are no difficulties, no troubles and no misunderstandings that can scare us, if we remain as branches on the wine - united with God, if we do not loose our friendship, if we give him more and more room in our lives.“

At the end of Holy Mass, Fr. Marinko congratulated all and thanked everyone who participated in the preparation of this celebration. Everything was even more solemn thanks to the singing of the parish choir, conducted by Sr. Irena Azinovic. The assistant parish priests Fr. Perica Ostojic and Fr. Vjekoslav Milicevic, as well as the Deacon Fr. Zvonimir Pavicic prepared these 66 young boys and girls for this sacrament. (photos)
