“The simplicity of prayer is especially powerful in Medjugorje,” said Safiria Leccese, a pilgrim who came to Medjugorje last year, in her interview for our radio station, Mir. Safiria is journalist and one of the most popular persons in the media world in Italy. She hosts a TV show which discusses religious topics and is a great success. One of her most important tasks was when she conducted a programme on the day when John Paul II was beatified. She spoke about her experience of Medjugorje, as she has been coming here for the last six years as a pilgrim. When asked why she comes to this place of prayer and peace and what she finds here, Safiria said: “Here I find peace, a special peace. Regardless of whether I come here because of personal reasons or due to the obligations of my work, I can still feel the depth of that peace. Our Lady is leading us to Jesus. I try to accept her invitation and her messages with a profound feeling of being so small. The message of fasting on bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays is very challenging. It is not only that, but many other things. In order for us to live the messages of Our Lady, I think it is important to have people beside us who will help us in achieving it, so we would journey together. I am here with my family and I am so happy as we have each other. We need to know that Our Lady’s invitation to follow Jesus is always about the cross we need to carry. Many Italian pilgrims come to Medjugorje. It is hard to say what happens to them after they return home, how much they live the messages and how they place Medjugorje in the reality of their lives. I know there are many people, just like me and my family, who live this invitation very deeply and we always have a desire to return here again. There is something really powerful here and it is the simplicity of prayer. When you climb Podbrdo and Krizevac, in silence, with a rosary in your hands, those are the moments of strong prayer which is indeed simple”, said Safiria.
