The Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrated in Medjugorje

date: 08.12.2010.

On Wednesday, December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated in Medjugorje. This famous destination of pilgrims was again packed with pilgrims from all over the world, and all came to be here for the Feast of Our Lady. Majority was from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia and there were organised groups from Italy, Germany, France, Korea and England. There were smaller groups of pilgrims from all over the world, from United States to Japan. Many priests were available for the sacrament of Holy Confession as they would normally be. There were three Holy Masses in Croatian language, two in Italian and one in German, French, Korean and English.
Just a little before the Feast of the Immaculate Virgin, group of pilgrims from Vukovar, Croatia arrived to Medjugorje. Their leaders were Friar Ivica Jagodić and Dr. Dražen Živić, Head of the Branch Office of the Institute of the Social Sciences “Ivo Pilar” and President of “Matica Hrvatska” branch in Vukovar. Along with other leaders, they brought three different groups of children to Medjugorje: children’s choir “Heralds of St. Bonaventura”, children amateur theatre “Bonokaz” and young dance group.
Their parish priest Friar Ivica said: “Every child climbed the Hill of Apparitions, found little stone for themselves and sat there alone and prayed. It was one beautiful image.” Dr. Živić added how “Medjugorje reflects with special spirituality that can be best felt when large numbers of people are not here. Whoever comes to Medjugorje receives a little stone that they need to work on and continue carving it into their spiritual life. Devotion to our Blessed Mother, that can be felt in Medjugorje in the most beautiful way, connected all parts of our country, in a special way those parts that were really destroyed in the last war”, said Dr. Živić.
