Thousands of faithful at the Holy Mass and Procession for the occasion of the Corpus Christi Solemnity in Medjugorje

date: 23.06.2019.

The Corpus Christi Solemnity on June 20, 2019 was celebrated in Medjugorje and the evening Holy Mass main celebrant was the Apostolic Visitor for the parish of Medjugorje, Archbishop HenrykHoser with 34 priests concelebrating.

The Procession with the Most Blessed Sacrament followed after the evening Holy Mass with many parishioners, priests, religious and pilgrims from all over the world. The Benediction at the White Dome altar followed after the liturgical readings, Rosary and songs as the part of this Procession.

Mons. Hoser said at the beginning of the Holy Mass that after the Easter time finishes, we celebrate three great mysteries in three Solemnities.

''Those are solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity celebrated on last Sunday, solemnity of Corpus Christi that we celebrate today and the solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus we would celebrate this following Friday. In this way, the Church reminds us to what is the most important in our religious journey. The Corpus Christi is the solemnity in which we celebrate the Body and Blood of Christ and this solemnity confirms and honours the real presence of Jesus Christ in bread and wine consecrated in the Holy Mass and it is always celebrated on the first Thursday after the Most Holy Trinity solemnity, sixty days after Easter and this is the symbolism of the Holy Thursday, said Mons. Hoser. The elevation of the host in the Holy Mass expressed desire for the contemplation of the Blessed Sacrament, the host, during the Holy Mass. The first gesture of the elevation in the moment of transfiguration was recorded in Paris around 1200. The Adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the continuation of the tradition that brings us closer to the Lord, not just in our personal life, but more so ever in the public and social life, something we have now in the Procession with the Blessed Sacrament in our streets and close to our homes.”

Once again, we remind that the Novena to the Queen of Peace is taking place at this time and the Rosary is said each day on Apparition Hill. The traditional Peace Walk will take place on June 24, the Eve of Our Lady’s Apparitions, at 6 am from Humac to Medjugorje.
