Holy Mass of the Lord's Supper in Medjugorje - Jesus wanted to remain with us forever

The Holy Easter Triduum in Medjugorje began with the Holy Mass of the Lord's Supper, presided over by the Apostolic Visitor with a special role for the parish of Medjugorje, Archbishop Aldo Cavalli, with the concelebration of 65 priests. This Holy Mass commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus, the institution of the Eucharist and the priestly order.

At the beginning of his homily, Archbishop Cavalli said that Jesus wanted to remain with us forever under the precepts of bread and wine and that it all began at the Last Supper, and then explained what was happening and how the words "Do this in remembrance of me!" created a new covenant between God and us. He explained that after this event in the Gospel we do not find a single word of explanation because the apostles did not understand anything, and when Jesus was buried they thought it was over, and "they only began to understand later", said Archbishop Cavalli, and highlighted two fundamental facts for both the apostles and for all of us - the resurrection and the Holy Spirit.

"When they saw him alive, their lives began to change radically. And when they saw the living Jesus, through the gift of the Holy Spirit they could look back on everything they had gone through with him and then they began to understand and comprehend. In a special way they understood that the Last Supper and the Cross were one and the same event. At the Last Supper, Jesus said over the bread: 'This is my body which is given up for you'. And when did He give up, give His body and His life for us? On the cross! And over the chalice he said: 'This is my blood which is shed for you, for the forgiveness of sins'. And when He did that, He went to the cross," said Archbishop Cavalli, and then He explained how Jesus looks at us from the tabernacle, and we look at Him, and he also remembered the Youth Festival in Medjugorje.

"Last summer there were 40-50 thousand young people outside here. We had Holy Mass and then Adoration. 40-50 thousand in absolute silence, no one moved. He looks at me, and I look at Him. He speaks to me, and I speak to Him, that is the presence of Jesus, His sign, what He wanted, to be among us in the Eucharist. We always think about that.

That is the true and real presence of the Lord Jesus Christ," said Archbishop Cavalli, and after the Holy Mass the faithful remained to pray before the Lord in silence, until midnight. The church bells have fallen silent and will not be heard until the Easter Vigil when they will announce the glorious resurrection of the Lord.
