Confirmation in St. James' Parish Medjugorje

date: 22.05.2008.

On Thursday the 22nd of May, 2008, the solemnity of Corpus Christi, 83 candidates received the sacrament of Confirmation from the hands of Mons. Želimir Puljić, the bishop of Dubrovnik.

Mons. Ratko Peric, Bishop of Mostar, conferred on this day this sacrament in another parish, so he asked Mons. Želimir Puljić the bishop of Dubrovnik, to confer the confirmation to the candidates in Medjugorje.

The bishop, the priests, the candidates and their sponsors entered the church in procession. Their parents, their relatives and other parishioners filled the church itself, and overflowed out into the open space around the church. At the beginning of the Mass, Fr. Petar Vlašić, the pastor of Medjugorje, greeted the Bishop, and the candidates also welcomed him. In his homily, Želimir Puljić spoke about the mystery of the solemnity that the Church was celebrating on that day – about the Eucharist. Holy Mass was enhanced by the singing of the Queen of Peace parish choir under the direction of Sister Slavica Kozul. After Mass, the pastor encouraged the candidates to continue to walk on the path of God’s grace, which was given to them in the sacrament of Confirmation, and he thanked Mons. Puljić for coming. The parishioners greeted him with a long and warm applause.

After Mass, Mons. Puljić joined with the Franciscans for lunch, and continued in conversation with them for some time. In the families, the festivity continued during the whole day.
