Palm Sunday in Medjugorje

date: 21.03.2016.

Palm Sunday or the Sunday of the Passion of Our Lord traditionally is an introduction to Holy Week, as a preparation for Easter, the greatest Christian feast. As in previous years, the liturgy of Palm Sunday began in the ruins of the old parish church. The procession began after the Gospel reading about the entrance of Our Lord into Jerusalem was read and the blessing of palm and olive branches followed. Parishioners along with altar boys, readers, singers and priests all walked to the White Dome of St. James’ church, where Fr. Karlo Lovric celebrated Holy Mass at 11 a.m., accompanied by singing from the parish choir, conducted by Sr. Irena Azinovic. Fr. Vjekoslav Milićević gave the homily. Numerous pilgrims from surrounding places and towns, as well as from Croatia and abroad joined the parishioners of Medjugorje in this solemn celebration. Besides four Holy Masses in Croatian, there were many in foreign languages. Many pilgrims also climbed Apparition Hill at 2 p.m. for the prayer of the Rosary. As there are many pilgrims arriving in Medjugorje at this time, the number of those who patiently wait for the sacrament of confession grows each day. (photos)
