Homily of Archbishop Henryk Hoser, the Apostolic Visitor for the parish of Medjugorje, given on August 4, 2020

But most important is our personal prayer: from heart to heart. If that heart is not pure, the dirtiness that Jesus is talking about should be removed from it. So much, even excessively, we care about the cleanliness of the body: baths, showers, soaps and shampoos, creams and lotions. But they do not purify the heart. There is a way: it is the sacrament of healing, it is called the sacrament of reconciliation and peace. It is the sacrament of forgiveness of sins and strengthening for a better way of life.

Msgr. Tomo Vukšić: Jesus is saying to us tonight: „Take courage! It is I! Do not be afraid!“

We also know that to us, who are His disciples in these days, he is saying: „Take courage! It is I! Do not be afraid!“ (Mt 14,27) We thank Him for that and let us pray that God would always have His hand of help extended over each one of us, through Christ our Lord.'' (PHOTO)

The second day of the Youth Festival: Rosary on Apparition Hill, Procession, Holy Mass, catechesis, ''Gift of Conversion'' …

The central event was Holy Mass celebrated by the Provincial of Herzegovinian Franciscan Province, Fr. Miljenko Steko who spoke in his homily about St. Francis, his conversion, Portiuncula plenary indulgence and said how Medjugorje to many was their own Portiuncula. (PHOTO)

Homily given by Fr. Miljenko Steko, OFM, Provincial of Herzegovinian Franciscan Province

To many of you, Medjugorje is your Portiuncula. You return tirelessly as pilgrims, constantly confirming that you are participating in something that transcends all of us. And by your pilgrimages you speak to others with this motto of the 31st International Prayer Encounter for the Youth – Youth Festival: "Come and you will see" (Jn 1:39)! Here you were moved by Our Lady's love as St. Francis was moved in the Portiuncula. Medjugorje is a place of grace, because in it heaven touched the earth in a special way.

The 31st Youth Festival opened in Medjugorje

''Here, we talk about not only controversy regarding the apparitions, but regarding the pastoral activity as well. Some are fervent intercessors, some are against and they even deny our fidelity to the doctrine of the Church, but the most appropriate response would therefore be: ”Come, and you will see!”, for only then you would be able to witness about what you have seen and experienced, said Msgr. Hoser. (PHOTO)

Homily of the Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Msgr. Luigi Pezzuto on the occasion of opening the 31st Youth Festival in Medjugorje

The same can be applied to our relationship with the Blessed Virgin Mary. With  regard to that, I would not suggest you should be praying to Our Lady a lot to receive her protection; that is surely alright. However, true devotion to Mary is trying to obtain something more – it is to receive a grace to accept her in our lives, in the way that she was a disciple and faithful, joyful, free and strong, and this would, doubtlessly lead us all to Jesus.

Holy Father’s Letter to the Youth for the 31st Youth Festival

Dear youth, »keep running attracted by that face of Christ, whom we love so much, whom we adore in the Holy Eucharist and acknowledge in the flesh of our suffering brothers and sisters.May the Holy Spirit urge you on as you run this race. The Church needs your momentum, your intuitions, your faith« (Ibid, 299). In this race for the Gospel, inspired by this Festival as well, I entrust you to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, invoking the light and the power of the Holy Spirit so that you may be true witnesses of Christ. Therefore, I pray and I bless you, asking you to pray for me, too.

Fr. Marinko Šakota, OFM confirmed that Youth Festival would be held from August 1- 6, 2020

At this time of coronavirus pandemic, all programmes of the international spiritual retreats and this year’s Youth Festival go through various challenges and many events have already been cancelled. Thank God, the situation at the moment allows us to organise this year’s 31st Youth Festival, however, a bit modestly than normally. Most of the programme from Medjugorje is being now sent to the world via electronic media and many faithful are tuned to those on daily basis, from all over the world. In the same way, this year’s Youth Festival would be live streamed and online and we remain connected to all those who, unfortunately, would not be able to come to Medjguorje personally this year.
